Reviews
Pretty disappointed that this place claims to be "famous for crawfish" and a fine dining establishment. Went there and they had zero crawfish, zero steak, and the place was a dive bar, interestingly enough they had great food. Luckily Leah the bartender was awesome, and when she got off shift Debbie took over, she rules too. This place is the essence and last surviving glimpse of what sellwood used to be like, before all the posh assholes moved in and started overpaying for houses and rent, thinking that means dive bars aren't actually dive bars, this place isn't a fake hipster ass dive bar, it's a real one. UPDATE: went back a few weeks later and got service from a different bar tender, later that night Bonnie took over, this place still rocks. I'll be back again and again. Didn't get the least bit of trump right wing establishment that everyone else has complained about. They poor a good drink and they were 100% on top of service even when busy as hell. Would give 10 stars if I could. Give this place a try if you're in the neighborhood, i think you'll love it.
This is a great place except for one nighttime bartender. I was just reading reviews, and somebody referred to her as a "Goddess." This "Goddess," wears a neck chain that spells out the words "fuc* yo* while she is working. Come in on her shift sometime and see all the minors she serves. Only in Portland, could she get away with that crap!
This is a place where the more years you go here, the more rewarding it is ... Salt of the Earth staff and patrons ...Tracy is MVP , Deb is the hard outer shell with the heart of gold, Cassie , her daughter is always there with the clever quip, and Bonnie is the tall goddess . Great service , and food. They call this a dive bar.....but no, it is a ' neighborhood bar' ...it might take a bit of time to fit in, but if you're a Sellwood local, it should be a first stop.
This is a unique place with real people who are accepting of others and like to have a good time. The music is always good with a wide range of genres. The menu is somewhat limited but everything they serve is extremely tasty and prepared with care. Lastly, the bartenders are top of the line, funny, efficient, hardworking and oh so pleasant. Jake's really does rule! Give it a try.*****
